The Room Nine Kids were excited to combine our annual KCRA Kids Can! Food Drive with this year’s World Wonder Day challenge of Impacting Our Community with Food & Food Banks!
How does this tie to Common Core Standards? The Room Nine Kids had to research information on our local Food Bank (Second Harvest) as well as on our county and city of Manteca. They had to collaborate on ways to increase the amount of food brought in (using critical thinking skills and some creative ideas) and then communicate what they were doing to our entire community. Researching, writing, collaborating, communicating, using technology and learning empathy as well.
A real-world problem tackled with 21st Century Skills by engaged and excited students sounds like a great Common Core lesson!
